Disney Moves ‘Soul,’ ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ Release Dates
Disney announced on Monday morning that it will move the release dates for two of its upcoming animated films, Pixar’s “Soul” and Disney Animation’s “Raya and the Last Dragon,” in response to ongoing theater closures due to the coronavirus.

Soul,” which was slated for release in June, will now be released on November 20. “Raya and the Last Dragon,” which was slated for release on Thanksgiving weekend, will now be moved to March 12, 2021, filling a slot held by an untitled Disney live action film that has now been removed from the schedule.

The move for “Soul” has long been expected as all other major releases for June have been moved back, including Warner Bros.’ “Wonder Woman 1984” and “In the Heights.” Movie theaters are not expected to open until July at the earliest, and the possibility remains that they could stay closed for even longer if the coronavirus continues

James Gunn Says Coronavirus Won’t Delay ‘The Suicide Squad’ or ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3’
The nationwide coronavirus pandemic shutdowns have caused major problems for the year’s movie releases, with numerous blockbuster films delayed by months or in some cases even more than a year. But according to director James Gunn, neither of his two upcoming movies — “The Suicide Squad” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” — are being knocked off track by Covid-19.

“Right now there’s no reason for #TheSuicideSquad release date to move. We are on or ahead of schedule,” Gunn said Sunday on Twitter when asked by a fan. “We were extremely fortunate to wrap shooting & set up editing from our homes (due to a post production team & studio with foresight) before quarantine.”

This prompted another fan to ask about the fate of “Guardians” 3. “Right now the plans with Vol 3 are also exactly the same as they were before coronavirus,” Gunn said. Good to know!

The Suicide Squad,” a sequel to 2016’s “Suicide Squad,

Disney+ Apparently Added Terrible CGI Hair To ‘Splash’ To Prevent A Butt From Being Shown
We know that Disney will go to great lengths to sanitize its history and library, especially when it comes to the launch of its streaming service. Don’t even bother trying to find “Song of the South” or some of the more culturally insensitive cartoons. But when it comes to the rest of the library, apparently Disney+ isn’t above some quick CGI to remove anything that might be deemed inappropriate, as with the romantic comedy, “Splash.”

Why I Miss Movie Theaters, and Why Nothing Can Replace Them (Column)

Why I Miss Movie Theaters, and Why Nothing Can Replace Them (Column)
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much I miss movie theaters. I don’t just mean that I miss watching eye-zapping sensory-overload spectacles on the big screen. I don’t just mean that I miss watching vibrant life-size dramas that, by virtue of being on the big screen, become a kind of spectacle, one that’s larger-than-life in its intimacy.

I mean that I miss the experience of going out to a movie, of giving yourself over to it, of getting lost in it, of being taken away from this world. Warning: Don’t try this at home. Or, at least, not if you want it to work as well as it does in the cavernous dark.

Everything is relative, and in the moment we’re all caught inside now, a trip to the grocery store can suddenly seem as exciting as “Star Wars.” Who doesn’t, these days,

Pixar’s ‘Soul’ Moves to November, Disney Animation’s ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ Heads to 2021
