Exclusive: David Farr, the British writer behind The Night Manager and Hanna, is developing an adaptation of John Wyndham’s sci-fi novel The Midwich Cuckoos for Comcast-owned European broadcaster Sky.

Deadline can reveal that Farr is working to turn the novel into an eight-part series after it was the inspiration for two movies last century, both of which were titled Village Of The Damned.

Disney Rolls Back Plans to Release 4K Version of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’

Disney Rolls Back Plans to Release 4K Version of ‘The Empire Strikes Back’
Disney has rolled back on plans to release a 4K version of “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” in theaters, Variety has confirmed.

The decision comes just weeks after it was revealed a 4K edition of the film would form part of U.K. cinemas’ reopening slate. While “The Empire Strikes Back” will still be screened in U.K. cinemas, it will be a standard 2K version of the 1980 film.

Variety understands the Mouse House scrapped plans for a 4K release — which would have marked the first time a Uhd version of an original trilogy film had been screened in cinemas — after talks broke down with exhibitors in the last few weeks.

European cinema giant Vue was initially on board to show the 4K film across its U.K. cinemas, but said earlier this week that plans had changed, and the film would only be screened in 2K.

That’s right, freedom masks. Because if everybody in America agreed to wear one of these going into public places, we’d be a little closer to being free to safely go back to places like bars and restaurants and schools and most importantly movie theaters.”

Our Spidey senses are tingling over theater student Julian Bass’ impressive TikTok video showing him transforming from Jedi to Ben 10 to Spider-Man himself… and a handful of industry giants are feelin’ the tingle, too.

First, he appears as a Jedi wielding a lightsaber, which he uses to slice the screen and change into Ben 10 from the Cartoon Network franchise and then into Spider-Man, web and all.

In the caption, he urged fans, “If y’all can retweet this enough times that Disney calls, that’d be greatly appreciated.” Over 20 million views later, his wish came true, and a number of Hollywood bigwigs – including Walt Disney Company executive chairman Bob Iger, “Guardians of the Galaxy

            ’17 Blocks’: Film Review

            ’17 Blocks’: Film Review
In “17 Blocks,” Cheryl Sanford, matriarch of a low-income African American household in southeast Washington, D.C., talks wistfully of a “parallel universe” where she and her family enjoy cookouts, vacations and gift-filled Christmas mornings. This melancholy confession comes moments after a closeup of her casually snorting cocaine. It’s a heartbreaking scene in that have destroyed the future, and often claimed the lives, of too many African Americans in poor communities.

Though it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019 and was subsequently slated for distribution by MTV Documentary Films last fall, Davy Rothbart’s intimate and uncompromising documentary was then held back for 2020. The subsequent coronavirus outbreak put those plans in limbo once again, with theatrical and broadcast release still in flux. In the interim, “17 Blocks” has taken on fresh relevance amid the #BlackLivesMatter protests, speaking even more directly to this moment and an America convulsing in protest over racial inequality.

            ‘Chasing Dream’: Film Review
There’s a bit of everything and most of it works in “Chasing Dream,” the first feature directed by Hong Kong ace Johnnie To since “Three” in 2016. Far from what fans of To’s hard-boiled crime dramas such as “Drug War” and “Election” might have expected, “Chasing Dream” invokes everything from gritty 1930s Warner Brothers musicals to fizzy screwball rom-coms and “Rocky” as it follows an Mma fighter and an aspiring singer who team up to take on the world and chase the Chinese Dream. Poking fun at blind ambition and celebrity culture while propelling viewers on a dizzy ride of heightened realism and unabashed melodrama,

A box-office disappointment in Mainland cinemas in November, this production from To’s Milkyway Image company could get a new lease of life following its international premiere at the Far East Film Festival in Udine. It’s not the type of film that made To famous internationally,

The filmed version of Broadway’s smash hit “Hamilton” is drawing both praise and criticism, with some showering it with compliments of artistic “genius” and others noting the liberties taken with the total truth of the time.

The July 3 debut on Disney+ of the musical, written, composed by and starring Lin-Manuel Miranda, is set in the late 1700s and tells the story of one of America’s Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton, at a time when the new nation was wrought with slavery, social inequity and civil unrest.

Celebrities from across industries weighed in with their thoughts on Friday and Saturday, from “Frozen” actor Josh Gad calling the show “magical” and “pure genius,” to author Rozanne Gay saying it “dangerously elides they [sic] realities of slavery.”
